Hi,

Last week our monitoring server started altering that hosts were down.  The hosts we actually up and the problem looked like it was on the firewall.  I rebooted the firewall and it started working again but shortly after failed again.

By adding a MIP outbound for the monitoring server it made the rules work again.  There are some VPNs on the firewall which the monitoring server uses and my concern was that the MIP would break these but it didn't.

Strangely monitoring could communicate with some hosts and not with others so it looked like it was a rule order problem but I cannot be sure

a:  Does anyone know what went wrong?
b:  Why did the MIP fix the problems?
c:  Why did the MIP fix it but not break the VPNs ?

Thanks

James
