Hi!

I'm trying to add a read-only vsys admin account using the WebUI on a Netscreen-1000.

The problem is when I chose save. The fields are cleared..I have enabled WebUI access on the interfaces but i cannot log in using the
read-only vsys account.

I found this on Netscreens site:

Here is the solution:  Manage VSYS with read only account

Read Only Administrators in a VSYS are not supported in ScreenOS 3.0.x. This
functionality is only available in ScreenOS 3.1.0 and higher.

Model Netscreen-500

We use software version  2.8.0d10.0

Will this feature read-only vsys admin not work in my version? It says
it is for the Netscreen-500 but i cannot add the administrator to my
Netscreen-1000 either.

Help is appreciated!
Regards
Petra

The software for the 500 and 1000 are nearly identical I think, which would imply that the problem also exists with the 1000.

It's a tough call whether or not you want to upgrade.  Since it's a 1000, I would assume that a lot of stuff depends on an upgrade to go smoothly, and also depends on features that you use continuing to work the same.  2.8 is pretty crusty, 4.0 just came out a couple of weeks ago.  I've been using 4.0 in a test environment for awhile now, and I haven't run into any problems (except with an upgrade on my little 5xp at home, which was fixed by wiping the config and rebuilding it).  But our NS500's have been working just fine with it.

Actually, the 500 and the 1000 are fundamentally different - both are high-end systems with similar features, but the hardware component is night and day.  Issues related to one architecture have little to do with the other.

There is no version 3.1 for the NS-1000, and it's rumored 4.0 for the NS-1000 isn't due until Christmas or later.

I don't think you have a choice at this point.
